2013 “Chloe Graftiaux Passion Together” grant funding

Chloé is of course still in our hearts, so we are running the « Chloé Graftiaux Passion Together » programme for a second year.
When the « Once upon a time… » book about Chloé came out, we promised to translate into something lasting Chloé’s passion for all forms of climbing, for mountains and all the sports that go with them. She enjoyed quite a few : mountaineering, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, ice climbing, hill walking, rock climbing…

We are convinced she would have loved the idea of the fund, but probably hated the project submission process we concocted in 2012 ! So you’ll be glad to hear we’ve simplified the procedure this year.

All sorts of grants are available : some will favour the performance aspect, others an achievement, others will enable people to go further afield. But we have also chosen another direction. We want to highlight a youth project which puts the emphasis on sharing climbing, mountain sports, or mountian rescue, with young people in difficult circumstances. Their difficulties can be very diverse (illness, handicap, social or economic problems). The young people who are targetted by the project may be from here or elsewhere. Be creative !

Please bear with us if there is still room for improvement in the project submission procedure…

Here is how how to apply in 2013 and the the rules 2013 . Please print them off, fill them out and send them back by email or by post (in which case please provide TWO copies of your project submission)
If you are in the Brabant area, please put the evening of April 25 in your diary. The Brabant club will be showing the flim that was made in Albania (the project that won the grant in 2012) last summer. The film will be commented live by the team that carried the project. More on that soon !

PS : If any of you still wish to buy or distribute Chloé’s book, there are still a few copies available in English, and you can order them via info@chloegraftiaux-passion-together . If we manage to sell all remaining stock, we will be able to fund more grants
for the coming years.

Bourse 2014 “Chloé Graftiaux Passion Together”

Inspirés par la présence de Chloé,  nous relançons une troisième fois la bourse “Chloé Graftiaux Passion Together”.

Au moment de la parution du livre “Il était une fois une fée au pays de la grimpe”, nous vous avions promis d’aller plus loin et de pérenniser la passion que Chloé avait pour la grimpe sous toutes ses formes, pour la montagne et tous les sports qui s’y rapportaient. Elle en a pratiqué un certain nombre : alpinisme, ski alpin, ski de randonnée, cascade de glace, rando, escalade… .

Tous les types de bourses existent, celles qui valorisent la performance, l’exploit, celles qui permettent d’aller loin, … nous avons choisi un autre axe.

Nous souhaitons valoriser un projet jeune où l’accent est mis sur le partage pratique  de la grimpe, des sports de montagne ou des secours en montagne avec des jeunes en difficulté quelles que soient leurs difficultés (maladie, handicap, difficultés sociales ou économiques….).  Les jeunes avec lequel le partage est organisé peuvent être d’ici ou d’ailleurs. A vous d’être créatif !

Nous sommes déjà impatients de prendre connaissance de vos projets que nous imaginons intéressants et originaux. Nous vous invitons aussi à découvrir les 3 projets que nous avons soutenus en 2013 : l’escalade avec de jeunes grimpeurs aveugles et malvoyants, un projet néerlandophone en Bolivie pour développer une école de grimpe avec des jeunes Boliviens, Cap 48 au Mont-Blanc. Ces projets sont à découvrir dans les posts précédents.

Once upon a time a fairy into the world of climbing

It is with much emotion that we come to you. Almost 8 months ago, hundreds of you  testified of the friendship, be it close or remote, you had with Chloé. You expressed how much her short life has had meaning for you. Your testimonies both upset us and supported us.

Her disappearance in the mountains left our arms empty but our heart filled with her presence. We have asked ourselves a lot of questions regarding the meaning of her terribly short life, about her involvement, and about your testimonies.

All this has led us to publish the texts of Chloé. Even if the starting motivation was to leave a trace of our daughter, very quickly, her texts, and yours, brought us on another path: to be witness and visionary of a life’s project that she gave us – as a treasure – and to share it with you all.

If this sharing is already done via a book and a dvd, we wanted go even further by creating the non-profit association  “CHLOE GRAFTIAUX PASSION TOGETHER”. … we are sure that she would have appreciated.

To be able to live her passions, in addition to her will, Chloé received small nudges in the right direction here and there. The objective is to continue this by giving similar nudges to the young people who have projects in climbing, in mountain sports or in mountain assistance,  but with the goal of sharing a passion.

To do this, we initially decided to sell the book+DVD at the cost price to allow a maximum of young people access to it. It is left up to you if you wish to offer more… All the generated benefits will be transferred to this association which will financially support certain projects on a yearly basis. The practicalities  will be defined in the weeks to come and published on the site of Chloé: www.chloegraftiaux.com. We thus invite you to widely disseminate this information through your channels of information: friends, clubsites, in competitions, facebook… all means are good.

Concretely, we invite you to order the book as soon as possible with the form joined, which you can return to us by email or to fill it out on line on the site of Chloé. For the payment, we ask you to privilege electronic money transfer which does not cause any additional expenses. We also ask you not to await the publication of the book to proceed to the purchase – this enables us to determine how much copies to print. The technical and budgetary constraints will prevent any form of republication.

The publication of the book and the official launch of the association “CHLOE GRAFTIAUX PASSION TOGETHER” could only be done “TOGETHER”. A fortnight of climbing will be organized from August 21st to August 31st in Namur and Freyr, in close cooperation with the Tourist office Jambes and the Belgian Alpine Club. Through various animations, all the passions of Chloé will be shared. The program will be widely diffused via various channels
